"Females of siricid wood wasps carry symbiotic fungi in their mycangia that are inoculated together with mucus in the wood of weakened trees during oviposition and serve as cellulose-digesters and/or nutrition for larvae. Xiphydria females carry unidentified xylariaceous fungi resembling Daldinia. Daldinia spp. occur also as latent pathogens inside trees. We found in mycangia of Xiphydria longicollis two different fungal genera. The aim is to identify the fungal symbionts of Czech Xiphydria woodwasps and study how the dependence on insect vector shapes population genetics and reproduction strategy of a potentially pathogenic associated fungus. Wood specimens infested with larvae will be collected mainly from oaks and alders and the fungi isolated from emerging adult females. Each isolate will be typified using RAPD and ISSR markers. The isolates will be then grouped according to these markers. Colony appearance, micromorphology, and rDNA sequences will be used for characterization of"@en . . .
