A molecular phylogeny based on three genetic markers - the chloroplast trnT-trnL intergenic spacer, the nuclear ribosomal ITS region and a single or low-copy nuclear gene - shall be established. Based on previous work covering subgenus Pilosella, the study will focus on the other subgenera, Hieracium and Chionoracium (Stenotheca), attempting to cover their entire genetic diversity at a coarse level as a prerequisite for further, more detailed studies.
