"Circadian oscillators represent key components inside the 'black box' translating environmental information to organism's adaptive responses. While the molecular mechanisms underlying behavioural rhythms (circadian clocks) slowly emerge, the molecular components and interactions involved in the seasonal switches from development to dormancy (seasonal or photoperiodic clock) are not known at all. Therefore, our effort will focus on the question of whether the circadian clocks and the seasonal clocks share common molecular and cellular components. Also, the stress will be laid on another, still unsolved, question of whether light and temperature cues act through the same clock. Methods of molecular biology, immunocytochemistry, and microsurgical interventions to the central nervous system will be combined to identify molecular clock components and actual pacemaker neurons. Two model insects, a heteropteran Pyrrhocoris apterus and a drosophilid Chymomyza costata, will be used. Both species have"@en . . . "0"^^ . . . .
