"The project is aimed to study evolutionarily stable strategies of pollination and floral evolution with terrestrial orchids as a model group. The main questions to be answered by means of experiments are: Is fruit set regulated by pollinators? What is theffect of various levels of load on plant fitness? Which insect species are the main pollinators and what are their strategies of plant choice? Do O. morio and D. sambucina really rely on naive pollinators? How does the level of aggregation affect the reproductive success of the plant? Is species composition in different microhabitats correlated with the abundance of orchids? Based on these data a model will be developed determining evolutionarily stable strategies (ESS) for the evolution of floral display, sex allocation in response to external conditions and for timing of opening and duration of individual flowers in the inflorescence.
