"The project is aimed at identification and prediction of organized and supercellular convection (OSC). Main goal of the project is enhancement in the accuracy of the flash flood forecasts. Significant OSC events, which occurred over the Czech territory, will be simulated by means of high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) models. We plan to test methods of radar data assimilation, and the dependence of precipitation forecasts on the type of parameterization of convective rainfall evolution (cumulus parameterization and other). We intend to assess several approaches to the verification of rainfall forecast, including radar reflectivity simulations by NWP outputs. Besides the experimental NWP model, which uses the LM DWD code, we plan to usethe non-hydrostatic model ALADIN/AROME for selected OSC cases in order to evaluate the output quality as regards the suitability for operational weather forecasting.
