The Moravo-Silesian Zone at the eastern margin of the Bohemian Massif (BM) shows features that are typical of peripheral zones of orogenic belts including rapidincrease of thermal maturity of its sedimentary successions from its marginal parts towards the orogen centre. Great variances in thermal maturation revealed from studies of vitrinite reflectance (VR) and illite crystallinity (IC) were assumed torepresent one of the principal arguments for thrust-and-sheet tectonic structure of the eastern margin of BM. However, the methodology of both VR and IC is limited to clayey rocks.
