"In recent years, an ever more important role in the process of surface water pollution has been played by the pollution coming from non-point pollution sources. According to investigations carried out for the %22Elbe Project%22, the share of pollutants reaching the water courses from these sources even exceeds 60%. Unlike the point sources, which are represented mainly by communities and industry, there does not exist any possibility of direct measuring of pollution effects coming from areal sources. The evaluations used at the present time are based upon balance calculations and estimates for entire catchment areas. The subject of the proposed grant project is the formulation, verification, and application of the new method of evaluation of non-poinsources of pollution of surface water. The proposed method is based upon the utilization of remote data concerning the Earth - satellite images informing about the land use, and the digital elevation model showing the influence upon the character of the"@en .
