"We propose a complex analysis of long-term activity of the binaries containing a compact object (CO) (compact binaries, CB) with a special attention to their transient phenomena. CBs are highly variable objects not only in X-rays but also in the optical.The source of their luminosity and activity is a mass accretion onto CO. The X-rays originate only in the close vicinity of CO while much more extended regions (disk, stream, companion star) radiate in UV and optical. The rate of production of X-rays strongly depends on the processes in the outer regions of the disk and in the mass-losing star. We propose to analyse the optical activity of CBs-it enables a much more extensive study and better coverage of the long-term light curve than in X-rays and allows for a study of the behaviour of CBs even in the seasons when CB is quiet in X-rays.
