However, the solar wind and the interplanetary magnetic field do not affect the magnetosphere directly. The solar wind flow and its fluctuations are transformed at the bow shock, then they evolve in the magnetosheath to reach the magnetopause. For the description of the magnetosheath flow we use the model based on the gasdynamic assumptions that, as preliminary studies have shown, cannot account for all processes in magnetized plasma. The goal of the project is to collect sufficient amount of the experimental data from all spacecraft operating in the solar wind and magnetosheath, carry out the statistical study, find out the parameters which control the magnetosheatflow and modify the model.
