V p\u0159edchoz\u00EDch experimentech jsme zjistili, \u017Ee krom\u011B p\u0159edpokl\u00E1dan\u00FDch sign\u00E1l\u016F na kr\u00E1tkou vzd\u00E1lenost mezi bu\u0148kami uvnit\u0159 kolonie, existuje signalizace na dlouhou vzd\u00E1lenost mezi jednotliv\u00FDmi koloniemi. "The cell - cell communication plays a crucical role in the development of higher eucaryotic organisms and its defects lead often to uncontrolled cell proliferation and oncogenic growth. Unicellular organisms, yeasts, growing on solid agar medium, are able to create a highly organised structure - colony with morphology specific for different yeast species, where individual cells act in a cooperative manner. In our previous experiments we found that beside assumed short range signals between cells inside the colony, long-distance signalling between individual yeast colonies exists. We identified volatile alkaline compound - ammonia - transmitted by yeast colonies in pulses as a substance mediating the intercolony signal (Palkova et al, Nature 390:532-536, 1997).
