"The SNW proteins are being found in diverse types of eukaryotic cells (including yeast, plant, Dictyostelium, worm, insect and man) and contain highly conserved regions implicated in protein-protein interactions (SH2-like, proline rich, amfipathic helix). SNW homologs are suggested to bind to transcription factors, their function, however, remains to be determined. Our hypothesis is that the SNW proteins are coactivators of nuclear transcription factors, integrating signal transduction pathways. Waim to test this hypothesis in Dictyostelium and characterize the partners of SNW both in vivo and in vitro. We plan to: (i) express SnwA and it's domains in Dictyostelium under the control of heterologous promoters, (ii) complement the function of SnwA using the homologs FUN20 and Spac8A4, and (iii) manipulate with SnwA in developmentally defective strains.
