"0"^^ . "We propose to finish characterization of six silk genes in the waxmoth, Galleria mellonella, and to identify sequence motifs involved in their hormonal regulation. Putative regulatory and most of the coding regions will be sequenced and effects of ecdysteroids and juvenile hormones on the gene expression examined. Shared motifs in upstream sequences and in the first intron will be identified and their significance for the binding of nuclear proteins will be explored in relation to the hormones. Comparison of homologous silk genes between Galleria and Bombyx mori will reveal if the unique versus the repetitive sequences in both coding and non-coding DNA sections change during evolution with differnt velocities; it should also be possible to assess whichcoding sections are indispensable for the physical properties of the silk."@en . . .
