"The project is based on the theoretical, instrumental and application potential of the UNESCO Laboratory of Environmental Electrochemistry of the Department of Analytical Chemistry, Charles University, Prague. It deals with the electrochemical behaviour of nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons as a new class of environmental carvinogens. The study should lead to development of analytical procedures for the monitoring of traces of these substances in the atmosphere and other parts of the environment.Clarification of the electrochemistry of the test compounds should further contribute to monitoring of their metabolites in organisms, in order to determine individual exposure to the pollutants. Moreover, new methods of destruction of these chemicals carcinogens suitable for laboratory decontamination and destruction of these genotoxic substances in laboratory waste should result from the project."@en . .
