"The aim of the project is to prepare glycosides of ergot alkaloids (galactosides, glucosides, mannosides, lactosides, glucoronides, and some N-acetylneuraminic acid derivatives of ergot alkaloid for spectral characterization and for physiological tests. We will use mostly various glycosidases for transglycosylation reaction and complicated oligoglycosides and sialic acid derivatives will be prepared by use of glycosyltransferases. We expect from these new derivatives augmented imunomodulation activitiesand altered pharmacokinetical properties. The second part of the project is the glycosylation of silybinin, an active (hepatoprotective) compound obtained from the plant Silybum marianum. Both chemoenzymatic methods and biotransformation using plant cel l cultures shall be employed.
