"The project intends to study the PCB degradation ability of plant cells and root cultures. Paralelly with the screening for the degradation ability, optimalization of cultivation conditions (media composition, concentration of PCBs, etc), with the aim toachieve maximum effectivness of the biodegradation, and analysis of the degradation products will be performed. The reaction of plant cells to PCB stress elicitation will be followed. The intra- and extracellular peroxidase activity will be measured, du e to the key role of peroxidases in the reaction of plants during the effect of stress conditions. Beside quantitation with PCB also the produced peroxidases during the incubation with PCB also the qualitative changes will be studied, especially the differences in isoenzyme pattern and their substrate specifity. The possibility of direct involvement or peroxidases in the biodegradation of PCB will be followed, too."@en .
