"Project is focused on properties/function of systems with (bio)chemical reactions and transport due to nonlinear dynamics in the system. Proposed research is both theoretical and experimental and is based on stability theory of chemical systems and theory of reaction networks. From this viewpoint four types of systems will be examined: 1) catalytic converters of exhaust gases (theor. study), 2) reaction-transport phenomena in mesosphere (theor. study), 3) chemical oscillatory and excitable reactions in mass-coupled cells (exp. and theor. study), 4) biochemical oscillatory reactions in a system with membrane transport (exp. and theor. study). A common feature is spontaneous formation of spatiotemporal patterns, which include multiple steady states, oscillations, chemical waves, spread of excitations. These regimes can under certain conditions enhance/deteriorate functionality or effectiveness of the systems that are either of technical importance or are considered as basic models pointing to functions of biological systems, such as assemblages of cooperating cells."@en .
