"This proposal represents a continuation of the grant proposal 203/00/1255 (Cyclic Peptides and Depsipeptides - Markers of Fungal Infections), which was evaluated by GACR referees as %22excellent%22. The project has shown the presence of the above mentioned secondary metabolites in media and/or mycelial extracts of clinically important filamentous fungi. The current grant proposal will explore the hypothesis that fungal cyclic peptides (present on fungal spore surfaces) are involved in immunoactivity and pathogenicity of some microorganisms. The basis of this proposal is represented by microbiological-analytical part and is supplemented by immunological evaluation. Spores of airborne fungal strains known as opportunistic pathogens (up to BSL-2 health risk category) or used as biopesticides will be screened for the presence of cyclic peptides. These compounds, coming both from fungal cultures or spores, will be isolated and characterized by mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)"@en .
