"The main goal of this project is to develop pre-separation techniques adequate for analysis and determination of physiologically important steroids in biological tissues and to connect of these techniques to new (more sensitive) separation methods. It isexpected that the main attention in the very separation step will be focussed upon HPLC-MS. These methods can give us also some information about the structure of analyzed steroids. Because the sample preparation and separation steps are intimatelyinterconnected we propose to develop tailor made combinations of pre-separation and separation methods simultaneously. From the viewpoint of preseparation techniques the old traditional methods as is liquid-liquid extraction or solid-phase extraction aregenerally used. These methods are suitable for the analysis of large volume (or high mass) samples.
