"We suggest to study peptide sequences rich of proline and of its derivative residues (hydroxyproline, 3(4)- alkylprolines, dehydroproline) as a potential factor instigating in peptide hormones activity of hormonogenes. Contrary to oligomeres of glycine which exhibit this activity at N-terminal part of the molecule, proline containing sequences are linked to the C-terminal part. This effect will be studied on insect and other peptide hormones including those of the vertebrate ones. We shall synthesize linear and cyclic biologically active and model peptides with a frequent or even cummulated presence of the proline (and of its above derivatives) residues using solution and solid phase methodology. The series of these peptides will also contain isosteric pseudopeptides with CH2-O, CH2-S and CH2-CH2 surrogates in place of Pro-X or X-Pro bond in the peptide backbone or in the side chain of proline rich peptides (mostly peptide models) in place of the disulfide bond between cysteine residues."@en .
