"The main aim of the project is experimental study of atomic structure of pure and nickel-segregated grain boundaries in molybdenum bicrystals. Structures of individual grain boundaries will be observed experimentally by means of the electron microscopy allowing atomic resolution. The images will be compared to theoretically simulated structures. Comparison of the structures of pure and nickel-segregated grain boundaries enables to identify the positions for nickel segregation in their cores and to characterize the structure of the quasi-liquid boundary layer. The values of enthalpy (energy) of grain boundary segregation will be determined and compared to the values of segregation enthalpy measured by Auger electron spectroscopy.
