U-120 accelerator and the facility for biological experiments of the Institute of Nuclear Physics, AS CR will be used for the irradiation of cell suspension. The translocations will be detected using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique which is currently used at the Institute of Biophysics, AS CR. The FISH technique is a new and very efficient method for the detection of such aberrations. So far there are no experimental data on the effectiveness of the induction of these aberrations in cells irradiated with densely ionizing radiation. Owing to the fact that stable chromosome aberrations are the most probable candidates for deleterious health effects of ionizing radiation in humans the results will contribute substantially to the improvement of the radiation risk estimations in radiation protection."@en .
