"Confocal scanning microscopy offers many advantages compared with the conventional optical microscopy - depth discrimination resulting in the possibility of a 3D imaging, an enhanced lateral resolving power. Sun and Leith proved experimentally that imaging with all the advantages of the confocal process can be achieved without the need for scanning. They have used the holographic method with the achromatic interferometer and an incoherent light source. Moreover, the phase of the object wave is also detected. We propose to modify the experiment to resemble the optical system of current confocal microscopes, i.e. to illuminate the obect by a collimated beam (K\u00F6hler illum.), to detect and reconstruct the image electronically in the reflected light and, finally, to use a microscope objective lens.
