"Structures and interactions (hydration) in aqueous solutions and gels of stimuli-responsive multicomponent polymer systems with various architecture will be characterized. Investigated systems include mixtures of thermoresponsive polymers, block and graft copolymers containing thermoresponsive blocks or grafts, and responsive two-component interpenetrating networks. Information how the architecture of the polymer system affects the phase-separated globular structures on various level should be obtained. This includes information on the sizes of globular structures, the fraction of monomeric units in these structures, on changes in hydrogen bonding of specific functional groups and arrangement of water molecules, as well as on changes in dynamics of polymer segments and water due to the phase transition. NMR combined with other physical methods (vibrational spectroscopy, DSC, SAXS, SANS, mechanical, swelling and dielectric measurements, quantum-chemical calculations) will be used to this purpose.
