"The essence of this project is using currently the strongest soft X-ray laser for generation and diagnostics of strongly coupled plasmas with density of a solid, with characteristics of warm dense matter. This state of matter, featured by high mass density, high degree of ionization, and comparably low temperature (a few eV), has not yet been experimentally explored in laboratory. The proposed project aims to generate this matter and to quantitatively measure its characteristics using a soft X-ray laser producing 10 mJ pulses at the wavelength 21 nm, which is available in the applicant's laboratory, and which is currently the strongest laboratory source of coherent soft X-ray radiation. The focused beam of this laser, producing irradiance up to 1014\u00A0Wcm-2, will volumetrically ionize and heat the material of a thin foil. The experimental setup will make it possible quantitative characterization of the generated ultradense plasma.
