The most important expected results can be formulated as (a) extension of the database of thermodynamic values of grain boundary processes, (b) general explanation of the compensation effect, and (c) elaboration of the method of prediction of thermodynamic parameters of grain boundary segregation. The fundamental nature of the relationship between enthalpy and entropy of structurally dependent grain boundary processes will be revealed. Its interpretation will be general and may have a strong impact in many branches of science in which these parameters play important role.
