"The dust is a principal constituent of all macroscopic objects in space in an early stage of their existence. On the Earth's surface, the dust and dusty plasma can be found in many industrial applications, either as a principal agent or as an impurity. Being immersed into plasma, the dust grains become charged by a variety of processes but many of them are still not well understood. The present proposal deals with a systematic investigation of charging properties of the dust grains. A single grain willbe trapped into an electrodynamic trap and than illuminated by electron and ion guns. The oscilation frequency of the grain will be measured by an optical system and the charge on the grain will be determined. The proposed methodology limits the size of investigated grains to l - 50 microns. We plan to investigate the size and material dependence of the secondary electron - electron emission, ion and electron field emissions and ion sputtering enhanced by the electric field.
