"This theoretical project is devoted to extended non-metalic systems containing atoms with open d- or f-shells, on which the itinerant electrons are strongly correlated. Carefully selected models of strongly correlated systems will be studied far from equilibrium, during the short time transients induced by pulse disturbances, and also in steady states out of equilibrium. This will provide a new understanding of the correlation effects on the basis of their non-equilibrium dynamic behavior. This may include the dynamics of spin fluctuations and the transient spin polarization in diluted magnetic semiconductors during the non-linear response to strong electric fields, or a self-consistent inclusion of local magnetic and electric fields in vortex structures in high temperature superconductors. On the technical side, the non-equilibrium Green's functions will be employed.
