The materials studied will be composed of nanocrystalline metal particles or clusters encapsulated or covered by carbon in the forms of graphite, amorphous matter, fullerene, or nanotubes. The research will be carried out with samples obtained by spark synthesis and laser pyrolysis and also by technologies of surface and film preparation (sputtering, ion implantation). The dependence will be followed between structure and phase composition and the parameters of the synthesis and subsequent thermal treatment. The electric and magnetic properties will be studied with respect to the influence of the structure and phase composition to understand the role of the interface between carbon and metal nanoparticles.
