"The goal of the project is to characterize the electron-ion recombination dynamics for the H3+ molecular ion and its isotopic derivatives (D3+, H2D+, and D2H+). To achive this goal we will combine the capabilities of the Advanced Integrated Stationary Afterglow (AISA) plasma reactor with highly sensitive and specific spectroscopic detection techniques with tunable diode laser spectrometer. The spectroscopic techniques will unambiguously measure the time dependance of the ion concentrations in the decaying plasma for specific initial quantum states thus providing extremly valuable aditional experimental data to the previously measured electron concentrations with the Langmuir probe. The focus of the studies will be on determinig the role of three-body effects on the experimentaly observed deionization rates and on determining reliable values for the intrinsic electron-ion recombination rates relevant for collision-free enviroment of the interstellar clouds.
