"Conducting polymers attract great interest of scientists due to their remarkable electronic properties and possible practical applications. Among those, doped polyaniline and polypyrrole have high conductivity combined with long-term stability in different environments. Conjugated polymers exhibit strong coupling between the electronic structure and certain geometric degrees of freedom. The present project will use the optical and electronic spectroscopic methods in combination with theoretical calculations to obtain the information on electronic and vibration states in both doped and undoped state, and on the nature of structural defects in conducting polymers. Vibration spectra provide information about local conformation in materials. The strong coupling between the electronic structure and molecular geometry is a challenge for the molecular simulations using empirical force field calculations to obtain the molecular conformations and structure of the large molecular aggregates.
