"The proposed project deals with a solution of a highly important problem of applications of some II-VI materials for a fabrication of quantum detectors of radiation. Semiconducting II-VI materials, especially CdTe and CdZnTe are in the center of interestfor a construction of arrays of gamma ray detectors to be used in the state-of-the-art tomography. The high atomic number in connection with high mobilities of electrons and holes predetermines these materials for detector applications. The main limitingparameter are the deep trapping centers, which deplete the collected packet of carriers generated by the incident beam of gamma photons. The deep trapping centers in CdTe and CdZnTe are connected with electrically active native defects lying in the middle of the energy gap, which concentrations must be minimized.
