"The post-main sequence evolution of massive stars contains several short-lived phases such as the luminous blue variable and the B[e] supergiant phase, in which stars experience strong, often eruptive, (quasi-)periodic mass ejection. The triggering mechanism for these ejections or eruptions is, however, vastly unknown. The project thus addresses the important issue of the mass-loss history in these two perplexing stages in massive star evolution. Based on high-quality optical and infrared spectroscopic data, the structure and kinematics of the ejected material will be obtained from a careful analysis of valuable emission features, such as the hydrogen series, forbidden emission lines, molecular lines, and dust particles. In addition, information on the inclination, extension of the dust regions, and the possible presence of a (close) companion will be extracted from interferometric data.
