"The project aims at creating new methods for acquisition, compression and rendering of spatially varying surface reflectance represented by means of bidirectional texture functions. The acquisition will be be carried out on macroscopic scale in order to allow for rendering realistic images using the measured data. The main goal of the project is the design and construction of mobile methods for surface reflectance acquisition on site, without the need to extract the physical samples from the real environment. The proposed non-destructive methods will aim to minimize the time of data acquisition, however, they should provide sufficient spatial and directional resolution of measured function. Further, at least one method will allow for spectral measurement. The project will also deal with the novel fast and efficient compression methods for the measured data sets.
