"This project will deal with detailed characterizations of thermal effects in wind tunnel simulations of the atmospheric boundary layer flow developing above complex terrain including heat island. In particular, an extensive set of experiments will be carried out to distinct contributions of thermally and mechanically induced turbulence for a number of characteristic topographies. Uniform and non-uniform stratification effects between the upwind and downwind mountain side will be investigated for different slope angles and boundary layer flows. For that purpose, the newly constructed climatic wind tunnel in Tel\u010D will be used. The experiments to be carried out are expected to provide a major scientific contribution of the proposed work. An additional benefit will be in generating an experimental data set used to validate numerical simulations, marginally as a part of this study and predominantly within some future project.
