"Phoneme awareness and letter knowledge are essential prerequisites for early literacy and their predictive role for beginning literacy is of no doubt in current literature. However the developmental relationship of these two skills is still under the discussion. We are proposing a study to test existing models of developmental relationship of these two skills. The study will also enable us to assess the impact of specific training in phoneme awareness and letter knowledge to the early literacy development in Czech preschool children. The methodology uses the approach of randomized trials to set up two experimental and one untreated group for 12 weeks training study including pre-test, direct post-test and delayed post-test (1month after the training). Methodology of the study is driven by latest experience in research to implement and run effective training in literacy.
