"The surface electric charge deposited on the insulating barrier in dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) stabilizes plasma in the low-temperature (non-thermal) regime. At the same time it contributes to a recurrence of plasma channel at the same spot and its undesirable overheating. We propose to examine the pre-breakdown distribution of surface charge by examining the charge recombination process. To obtain statio-temporal distribution of the light emission from the recombination products, we propose to use time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC). This allows to obtain sufficient sensitivity for the expected low-levels optical signal and sub-ns time resolution. For molecular gases the main recombination process is the dissociative attachment producing atomic radicals. Laser induced fluorescence (LIF) will be used exime atomic radicals formation dynamics. To improve LIF selectivity to the processes occurring directly on the dielectric surface, we will verify the gas excitation using the evanescent wave from the dielectric itself."@en .
