Current knowledge indicates the existence of unique processes linked to yeast multicellularity. The project will shed new light on molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in organization, development and protection of structured colonies formed by wild Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains. The project will answer questions related to mechanisms and regulations of colony phenotypic switching, cell organization and differentiation within the structured colonies, function of specialized cell subpopulations and function of protection mechanisms such as low-permeable extracellular matrix and multidrug resistance transporters."@en .
