"Hybrid materials suitable for utilization in medicine and molecular biology will be investigated. They will enable simultaneous imaging with different techniques (PET, SPECT, MRI, fluorescence), or even therapy, due to combination of metal ions in one molecule. Ligands selective for metal ions [e.g. those of transition (Cu), non-transition (Ga) metals or rare-earth elements (Sc, Gd)] will be developed. The ligands will exhibit fast complexation even in diluted solutions with formation of kinetically inert complexes. The ligands are based on macrocyclic polyamines with organophosphorus acid pendant arms. Ligands/complexes will be bound in suitable combinations on low-molecular-weight, nanoparticles or polymeric carriers to be tailored for the particular application. The main aim of the project is better understanding relations between ligand structure (ring size, number/kind/location of pendant arms etc.) and properties of the complexes, and how the properties are changed going from simple complexes to large systems which are necessary for practical applications."@en . .
