"The main aim of the project is a complex experimental and theoretical study of grain boundary segregation in metallic materials. Bicrystals of Ni-base alloys containing chosen interfaces will be prepared whose chemical composition will be measured. From these measurements, enthalpies and entropies of segregation will be determined for individual interfaces thus representing anisotropy of grain boundary segregation. Theoretical approaches will provide an important information about segregation sites at grain boundaries and about redistribution of electronic charge in boundary core. Combined experimental and theoretical study of grain boundary segregation that was made very rarely till now will serve to verify the choice of methods and potentials necessary for computer modelling of material properties and will contribute to explanation of the effect of interfacial segregation on grain boundary cohesion and material embrittlement."@en .
