"As it has been well recognized, interrelations between phases and the presence and nature of the interphase play a crucial role in determining the mechanical properties in practically important polymer blends The goal of this study is to correlate mechanisms of deformation, orientation and fractare in tough polymer blends with the molecular nature of the interphase effect, employing some modern spectroscopic methods. Systems based on polypropylene and polycarbonate will be used as basic materials throughout the study. Infrared dichroism monitored by photoacoustic detection, polarized Raman spectroscopy and solid-state NMR will be employed for structural characterization. ihe snectroscopic data, completed by the results of X-ray diffraction, of differential scanning calorimetry and of dielectric measurements, will be related to macroscopic mechanical properties, particularly toughness."@en .
