"The objective of the project is to investigate the micromechanisms of plastic deformation, the microstructure development and the structural stability of selected fine-grained magnesium alloys. The fine-grained state will be achieved by different processing routes, namely the ECAP, the rotary swaging and hot rolling. Tensile and compression deformation tests at various temperatures accompanied by the measurement of accoustic emission allow to determine the mechanisms of plastic deformation operating at various temperatures. Microstructure development will be studied by light, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. EBSD and X-ray diffraction will provide information about the texture development as well as the character of grain boundaries in the initial material, after the deformation and in the annealed state. Positron annihilation spectroscopy reveals the character of defects and their changes during the deformation or thermal treatment. During the project work new information about the fundamental aspects of plastic deformation and microstructure development of fine-grained magnesium alloys are foreseen to be obtained.
