"Based on recent classification of grain boundaries in b.c.c. iron, we proposed a revolutionary idea for new ways in production of optimised materials via Grain Boundary Engineering: In contrast to the present technologies based on rotation of individual grains in material to increase the population of so-called special interfaces via its deformation and consecutive annealing, we suggest that the grain boundaries should self-organise during suitable annealing by slight rotation (migration) between already existing grains to reach energetically the most favourable orientation of the special grain boundary. The processes based on our idea promise to be much easily applicable than changing grain misorientations by rotations of grains buried in the material and thus, the breakout progress in technologies of Grain Boundary Engineering.
