"Proposed project is devoted to sulphide stress cracking (SSC) of modem structural steels, i.e. micro alloy steels with a different yield strength, duplex steel containing austenite and ferrite and weldable supermartensitic steel with a low carbon and sulphur content. The main objective of the project is to prove that a common approach to determine steel resistance to SSC based on the steel hardness is quite insufficient and may be even dangerous. All parameters that determine steel resistance to SSC or more generally to hydrogen embrittlement have to be taken into account. An attention will be also paid to the choice of the method to test SSC resistance. Tests performed on specimens loaded below the yield strength will be compared with slow strain rate tensile tests (SSRTT) during which specimens are loaded to the failure. The material response may be different because during SSRTT interaction hydrogen - plastic deformation can occur and thus change crack initiation sites as well as the crack"@en . . . . . .
