"In the World,three basic types of machinable alloys are produced and commercially used: AlCu6BiPb, AlMgSiPb and AlCu4PbMg(Mn). The present EU legislation has radically reduced the content of lead in metals and alloys. E.g. According to the Directive2000/53/EC %22End of Life Vehicles Directive%22 thet was adopted by the European Parament on September, 2000, the max. content of Pb in wrought Al alloys for means of transport is reduced to O.4 wt.%. The content of lead is higher in all the three types ofthe machinable Al alloys. On the basis of the results of primary research, which was the subject of the previous grant projects, as well as applied research, the applicant took part in development of three new original machinable alloys AlCuBiSn,AlMgSiSnBi and AlCuMgMnSnBi. In these alloys, Pb is replaced with non-toxic Sn with combination Bi.
