"Sulphide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC) of duplex stainless steels (DSS) in sour H2S-Cl' environments is considered to be superposition of two processes of environmentally assisted cracking. Phenomeno logically those processes are hydrogen inducedstress corrosion cracking and chloride induced stress corrosion cracking. Both of those processes have different temperature dependence and also different metallurgical effects can be related to both processes. In addition to it one of the phases in theduplex structure can be not uniformly attacked during SSCC. In this case dissolution appears to be confined to certain preferential sites and the effect of dissolved areas on local stress concentration can be more profound than it is supposed. At presentthere is no single theory including all mentioned processes in cracking mechanism necessary to be always considered for given application of DSS.
