"The aim of the proposed project is to develop a method for efficient removal of the nitrates from service and drinking water using a strongly basic anion exchanger with recirculation of the regenerating agent. It will be enabled by electrochemical reduction of the nitrates present in the used regenerating solution. Using potentiodynamic and potentiostatic polarisation methods the electrocatalytic activity of various materials with respect to nitrates reduction will be studied in the artificial electrolytes simulating the solutions used for regeneration of different types of the ion-exchange column containing approximately600 to 1100 mg N03- dm-3. In the laboratory scale the efficiency of the ion-exchange columns regeneration and the quality ofthe treated water in dependence on electrolysis parametrs and number of regenerating solution recirculations will be investigated.
