"Up to recently the development of membranes for separation of gases as well as vapours has been based mostly on homogeneous organic or inorganic layers. The aim of the present project is to examine feasibility of the latest type of composites based oncombinations of polymer-macroporous polymer, polymer-hypercrosslinked polymer, and polymer-carbonized molecular sieve. Microporous sorbents i.e. polymeric sorbents and zeolites will be used as fillers and polyimide, polyisobutylene, poly(phenyleneoxide), poly(methylsiloxane) or an polyepoxide resin were used as binders. Membranes were cast from solution or by polymerization. A porous ? -alumina support would be used to improve the mechanical properties of the heterogeneous membranes. Theheterogeneous membranes will be tested for permeability of H2, O2, N2, methane and permselectivity of mixtures of low molecular hydrocarbons using a Wicke-Kallenbach cell.
