"The aim of the proposed project is the research of the technology of new materials and the development of new techniques for preparation of planar optically active structures, mainly polymeric carbon layers on the silicon substrate. Specifically, carbonlayers with -(C-C)-, -(C=C)- and -(C=N-C)- bonds or, potentially, the layers with bonds to silicon will be studied. New method of doping of these wave-guiding layers with active ions will be studied with respect to luminiscence efficiency or the gain ofactive amplifying structures using, among others, new original method of low temperature diffussion of erbium and other elements contained in solution. Moreover, preparation of optically active thin polymeric organic films will also be among the goals ofthe project. In the first stage, common polymers with high purity as eg. polymethylmetacrylate (PMMA) or polystyrene (PS) will be used for these experiments.
