"The project is intended to provide the rules govering on the atomic/nanoscale level the structure vs. activity/selectivity relationship of the metal ion/zeolite catalysts for ammoxidation of ethane and propane to nitriles, enabling to construct highly selective catalysts. The investigations will tie carried out with respect to the role of (i) ZSM-5, Beta and Faujasite matrices, their composition and topology, on the metal ion (mostly of Co, in combination with Ga and H+) structure and activity, and (ii) ammonia, as a ligand modifying the cation site, on the selectivity of ethane (and compared with propane) to nitrile. A complete description of the framework polyoxygen-cation-ligand complexes will be achieved by means of simultaneous monitoring of extraframework ligands and perturbed framework bonds (FTIR), and metal ion coordination by UV-VIS-NIR.
