"The subject of the project is the experimental and numerical modelling of incompressible turbulent flow with massive separation due to adverse pressure gradient (flow in one-sided diffuser and flow around an airfoil at high incidence) and/or due to sudden expansion of the cross-section (flow over an inclined step). The aim is to refine physical and mathematical model of turbulent flow with separation focused on three-dimensional character of flow, and appropriate numerical simulation such a flow using advanced mathematical models. The experimental investigation by means of PIV and LDA techniques will be focused on a detailed description of the structure of three-dimensional turbulent flow with separation and particularly on the mechanism of the development of vortex formations behind separation. Obtained knowledge of the flow structure together with results of numerical simulation will allow the assessment of the effect of separation on turbulent flow and energy losses in closed and open channels including the danger of cavitation of concrete surfaces."@en . .
